SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho rolled past Colorado Northwestern and North Idaho College on Friday in opening day of Region 18 Volleyball Tournament, advancing to the championship game Saturday.
The Golden Eagles crushed CNCC 25-3, 25-10, 25-11 early Friday. Leading the way was outside hitter Danielle Dean. Dean ended the match with 12 kills and four digs.
After struggling the last three times the two teams met, CSI finally put it all together and defeated No. 1-ranked North Idaho College 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 in the semifinals. The victory ensured that the Cardinals would not return to the national tournament and that CSI had two chances to qualify.
Torrey Hulseycame up huge for the Golden Eagles, finishing with 12 kills to just one error on the night. Jessica Peacock led CSI with 16 kills, while Britani Hathorn had 21 digs.
The Golden Eagles play Salt Lake CC at 1 p.m. Saturday for a trip to the national tournament. The loser hosts Eastern Arizona at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the winner earning the 18B seed at nationals.
