TWIN FALLS - The 6th-ranked College of Southern Idaho volleyball team knocked off 4th-ranked Salt Lake Saturday 25-12, 25-21, 26-28, 25-21 to gain momentum heading into next week's Region 18 Tournament.
Key in the match was the Golden Eagles ability to stop outside threats Shelbi Zaldain and Ame White. The two finished with just 13 kills and neither hit over .100.
For CSI,
Jessica Peacock led the attack with 14 kills, 5 service aces and 5 blocks.
The Bruins had already secured hosting rights for the tournament as well as the No. 1 seed after sweeping North Idaho College during the regular season. NIC swept CSI and CSI swept SLCC. Had it not been for the Golden Eagles loss at CEU, there would have been a 3-way tie for first and a flipped coin for seeding.
Because CSI ended the regular season in third, SLCC held the edge in head-to-head results against NIC and thus earned the right to host and have the No. 1 seed.
The Golden Eagles will open the tournament Friday against Colorado Northwestern. The winner will face North Idaho at 4 p.m. The Region 18 Championships is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
