CSI 72, Midland 64 Boxscore
HUTCHINSON, Kansas - The College of Southern Idaho men's basketball team defeated Midland College 72-64 Saturday to win the NJCAA National Championship.
Pierre Jackson scored 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles, winning national tournament MVP honors. Jackson set the national tournament record for most free throws in the tournament with 46.
Mitch Bruneel and
Kenny Buckner also were named to the all-tournament team. Buckner finished the championship game with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Eagles trailed 5-0 to start the game but a 14-2 run put them up to stay. Midland closed within five in the second half but a key 3-pointer by Jackson pushed it back to eight and CSI hit free throws down the stretch to hang on.
The last time CSI won the national championship in 1987, the Golden Eagles also defeated Midland. This championship give the Golden Eagles their third men's national championship. CSI also won in 1976.
The team will arrive back in Twin Falls Monday at 4 p.m. via police escort. Please come to the CSI gym and welcome them back home.
